Whatsit cannot afford to be boring somebody says

Adam Boulton: Starmer cannot afford to be 'boring' – Labour has to show it's shifted into top gear towards election win

Despite the excitement after Labour's by-election win in Scotland, it is not a done deal yet. At the party's conference in Liverpool, Sir Keir Starmer will need to go beyond "if not them, why us?" during his speech, writes Adam Boulton.

Starmer's problem is that he must now "do something" to show he is not boring. When objectively boring people try this they end up looking like Ed Davey.

Sam - that's it, his public persona is boring and the U-turns must have some negative impact on any attempt he makes to be more interesting.

Clem Attlee always seemed boring, didn't he? He seems to have been a decent chap who unfortunately did the country more harm than any PM before Blair.

dearieme - yes he seems to have been a decent chap. I suspect an unknown number of MPs are decent enough too, but they go with the mood of their party and social circles rather than analyse things themselves.
