It is a tiny bit dated. Today you wouldn't be able to specify whether an applicant was an animal or not. Referring to their species would bring you trouble from the HR Department, and probably the police.
Sam - yes, can't have intrusive questions such as animal, vegetable or mineral? Candidates could probably sue on that question alone.
