This holiday we've seen lots of long queues for ice cream. Not unusual in a holiday destination with plenty of people around, even in winter, yet Mrs H and I have both been surprised how long the queues are.
I don't dislike ice cream but I haven't tasted one for years. It is certainly not delicious enough to queue for - not for this curmudgeon anyway. Now, with many ice creams from kiosks having brightly coloured syrupy stuff dribbling down the ice cream bit, it looks more artificial than ever.
Maybe the queue is part of the satisfaction, a kind of traditional delayed gratification. Or maybe it just keeps the kids quiet for a few minutes.

They might have brought in experts from the industry to improve the NHS. You won't want it too often, but when you do, everyone else will want it and there will be a big queue. You'll appreciate it all the more once you get to the front of the queue, but even then it won't be anywhere near as good as it's made out to be.
We always have ice cream in the freezer, but never seem to remember to use it...
Sam - it's certainly possible. Getting to the front of the queue is the only possible reward so use it to the full.
Scrobs - we did that many years ago with the same outcome - we never remembered to us it. When we finally tried it, the stuff had ice crystals on it.
I'm not a fan of sweetened cold fat, but I do keep some in the freezer for the grandkids.
Ed - we've considered keeping some in for the grandkids, but they aren't that keen on it for some reason. They both have a sweet tooth, but no great liking for ice cream.
I would happily have queued for an Ice Cream yesterday, but I couldn't find a parking space! With the amount of traffic and people about it could just as easily have been a hot day in summer...
Dave - it was very busy here yesterday, but today it's wet and windy and the crowds have disappeared.
My beloved makes excellent ice creams. Currently we have been enjoying her honey and orange.
If we run out of home-made we eat commercial vanilla with cherries in brandy - the cherries being our own morellos. On the "brandy" we sometimes cheat a bit. One jarful we made using morellos, rum and Dutch redcurrant gin. Delish.
dearieme - I don't think I've ever sampled home-made ice cream. I don't think I even know anyone who makes it unless they make it in secret and never offer us any.
