Those who pay no price for being wrong

The video makes a key point - our loss of individual freedom has been and still is an accumulation of small losses imposed by those who pay no price for being wrong.

Is Pluto a Planet, or not.......? What ever your answer is,... we know where is comes from.

In the UK, it's a partial truth. Of course, lots of tiny decisions are made by people who have no interest whatsoever in my preferences. But there are many others - which I can find irksome - which are there because it makes life easier for them to give me a service I want.

Sowell's example of garbage collection is a good example. It can feel a bit of an infringement to be told how to prepare my rubbish for disposal. But they tell me how to do it so that they can collect it cheaply and efficiently. Sorting the cardboard and bottles is a chore, but if the alternative is no collection or higher council tax or more noise and mess, I'm happy to go along with it. I just like to be told why.

Sam - yes, garbage collection is a good example. Irksome because it effectively pushes the sorting costs onto us, but what we don't know is how effective the sorting is generally. Not worth making an issue of it and so it goes on.
