The unavoidable conclusion

And they were soon in the midst of one of those immense and formless conversations in which a complex subject is discussed without order interminably, and without apparent result, until there comes a moment when the speakers perceive that all the ground has been many times covered and that it is no longer possible to say anything that has not already been said; and pauses occur, and the unavoidable conclusion emerges and shapes itself and imperiously demands acceptance.

Arnold Bennett - Whom God Hath Joined (1906)

And the unavoidable conclusion is – it’s too late.

It may not be too late for some kind of muddling through. Other forces may be at work forging an unpredictable future, but it certainly feels too late. Conservative or Labour would have to be supplanted completely or change to an impossible degree.

Yes - it's too late.

Thanks for not using the term "tipping point". That's already been patented.

Yes. That point at the end of a huge feast on the x+1 Star restaurant attended by Climate Wallahs when the bill has been signed off to expenses, but there is the little matter of leaving a token for the staff. Because it is coming out of the Climate Gobblers' own pockets. The Tipping Point. The crafty ones will have headed for the loos early. Others will have a phone app which will cause a ostentatious ring tone - Excuse me. It's the minister.- Exit stage left.
And so on.

Sam - I came close and it was an unprecedented struggle, but managed to avoid it. Well partly.

Doonhamer - we can hear it already - listened to the experts, consensus opinion, all the top people agreed, best evidence available.
