What inspectors found when they checked more than 50 Lancashire funeral homes
More than 50 Lancashire funeral homes have so far been inspected after the government recommended local councils check up on the undertakers operating in their area. The Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) can reveal no concerns have been raised following the visits so far carried out across the county.
However, the majority of Lancashire’s local authorities are yet to complete – or even begin – the inspections, while two have said they have no plans to do them at all. The Ministry of Justice wrote to all councils with environmental health responsibilities in April and strongly suggested they assess the funeral parlours in their patch in order to ensure they were caring for the deceased properly.
Inspectors of local democracy? What's the The Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) and who are these inspectors?
Some may know this already, but here we are for chaps like me who didn't know -
The Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) is an initiative in the United Kingdom funded by the BBC. The scheme pays for the employment of journalists by local independent news outlets, in order to improve the coverage of issues relating to local democracy. Its core purpose is stated as being "to provide impartial coverage of the regular business and workings of local authorities in the UK, and other relevant democratic institutions such as mayoralties, combined authority areas, PCCs, quangos, etc."

Funded by the victims of the BBC tax, that is. You think you couldn't make this up then find out someone already has . . .
"The scheme pays for the employment of journalists": oh no it doesn't.
The licence-payers pay for an underhand political initiative, more like.
“ "to provide impartial coverage”
Had to re-read that … the BBC?
Funded by the BBC? I didn't see that coming
"The Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) can reveal no concerns have been raised following the visits so far carried out across the county."
What a damn shame that the caped crusaders have hurtled forth from the bat-cave, and found absolutely nothing of any interest.
It's almost as if we don't need such a service, but I'm absolutely certain they'll find some outrage if they keep looking.
Jannie - "You think you couldn't make this up then find out someone already has..." yes that was my reaction.
dearieme - and probably don't even know they are paying for it.
James - yes, they really do think they are impartial.
Bucko - I didn't see it coming either, BBC tentacles seem to be everywhere.
Sam - I'm absolutely certain they'll find some outrage too. They probably expected to find a gruesome one with this.
If the BBC can afford to fund such activities they:
a) have more of our money than they need
b) are establishing a beachhead to spread 'approved news' amongst the locals.
Take this together with their fact checking and disinformation approaches and you can see the 'Ministry of Information' growing before your eyes. Not by jackboots but by organic hemp sandals.

DJ - I agree, it is the 'Ministry of Information' growing before our eyes. It seems to be the BBC approach to media survival, become the official propaganda angency.
Dave - interesting, no mention of the BBC
Eh? So the Beeb gives "journalists" our money to do what they are already paid to do? What hurdles does a journalist have to jump in order to get our money?
And if the journalist turns up the wrong news, who decides to suppress it, the Beeb or the journalist's editor / newspaper owner?
Anyway those Homes are full of voters, right up until they are buried / cremated. Maybe even after that.
My ghast is truly flabbered.
Doonhamer - we may as well assume that local journalists who jumped the hurdles are aware of stories the BBC wouldn't suppress and who pays for the LDRS. My ghast is truly flabbered too.
@ Doonhammer - it's questionable whether any of the EDP (see my link) staff are capable of proper "Journalism", with or without the Beeb's help....
