Angela Rayner snubbed from top security committee chaired by Keir Starmer
The Deputy Prime Minister does not have a permanent seat on the UK's National Security Council (NSC) in a break with former practice.
The committee, chaired by the Prime Minister, includes Chancellor Rachel Reeves and Cabinet Office minister Pat McFadden,
Home Secretary Yvette Cooper, Foreign Secretary David Lammy, Defence Secretary John Healey and Attorney General Lord Hermer also have permanent membership.
Maybe the spectacle of Angela bouncing around in Ibiza had something to do with it, but imagine having to explain things to both Angela Rayner and David Lammy.
On the other hand, avoiding a few committees may be more gain than loss. That was my experience.
But perception goes out of committees. The more committees you belong to, the less of ordinary life you will understand. When your daily round becomes nothing more than a daily round of committees you might as well be dead.

National Security Council, Supreme Court - the dimwits can't resist apeing American titles, can they?
You have so many great quotations! When I visited a friend in Cambridge c. 1970 a chemistry student told me he read while wating for his experiments to resole - pehaps for many hours. Maybe scientists make the best literary scholars.
Directly a committee is propsed to consider an issue, Scrobs exits, and does something useful to solve the issue in good time before the 'meeting' convenes...
Imagine having fick Ange gawping at the long words, and thinking of having her nails done again, while Britain sinks!

The one which really gets my goat is changing SOCOs' traditional title to "CSIs", to echo the TV series - absolutely 4king juvenile.
dearieme - they seem to think it sounds cool. We'll have Highway Patrol programmes on telly next.
Sackers - I think I merely read a lot and I've collected interesting quotes for years. Former colleagues I'm still in touch with don't seem to read as much as I do, so I don't think it's a characteristic of scientists generally. Maybe it's going to become a condition with its own acronym :)
Scrobs - I can't imagine having to deal with fick Ange in a committee... or maybe I can...
Jannie - I've not come across that one, but these things can be easy to miss as they become established.
That lot in charge of national security. LOL!
And I have to agree with The Jannie about SOCOs. I'm surprised they didn't all start wearing sunglasses too

Her greater crime in Sausage's eyes is that she was having fun. No matter how corrupt it all was, she had still committed the unforgivable sin of having fun.
Bucko - yes, even trainee spies just need a rubber dinghy to get in.
Anon - I like the name Sausage. Sir Keir Sausage sounds just right for him.
