The mind that finds its way to wild places

The mind that finds its way to wild places is the poet’s; but the mind that never finds its way back is the lunatic’s.

G K Chesterton – What’s Wrong With the World (1910)

Sir Keir Starmer commits to clean power by 2030

Speaking to Sky News, the Labour leader said that Rishi Sunak was putting "vanity before country" by not calling an election straight away.

Asked about the 2030 commitment, he told Wilfred Frost on Sky News: "I'm not prepared to move that date. People keep saying to me, are you moving back on your goal? No, we're not - clean power by 2030.

Of course Starmer already knows one way back - redefine 'clean power'.

Such a mephitic morass of slogans and cliches does offer us an extremely sobering perspective on the political huckster though. Sadly we have become accustomed to the smell and don’t expect anything better.

Let's say that enough 'clean power' can be generated by 2030 (fat chance) how are the Government (it's their daft idea, after all) going to deliver it to all the houses and factories in the UK?

Allowing for the General Election there are only five or six years to totally upgrade the electricity network. It takes more time than that to get permission to build a new housing estate, let alone festoon the countryside with pylons (not in my back yard) and dig up all the roads to lay new heavier cables.

Clearly either Sir IKEA has no idea what is involved or he is just telling lies. Perhaps both.

DJ - I think he's telling lies, he must surely know it isn't going to happen. The more I see of these people the more disgusting I think they are. Lying for personal advantage, that's about it.

Starmer is probably the least poetic MP currently in the Commons. He didn't find his way to any place, he saw a very well-worn path and thought he ought to go down it in order to increase his chances. I agree with an earlier comment of yours that he looks as if he doesn't want the power anyway. Adopting policies like this makes him look like a man swallowing pine-cones that he knows will have to come out the other end in due course.

Sam - he's an oddity, but maybe a promise such as this puts a limit on how long he has to endure being PM. Clean energy doesn't happen so off he goes to a congenial sinecure.

This is a man who can't define what a woman is! How can he define clean power?
I would suggest that he is unable to make any decision without a committee (definition of which is, "A number of people who, individually, are unable to make a decision but, collectively, agree that a decision can not be made." ). I despair at what the future holds.
