The great forward movement in modern industry of which he had dreamed of being a part had for him turned out to be a huge meaningless gamble with loaded dice against a credulous public. Sherwood Anderson - Windy McPherson's Son (1916)
In Sir Keir Starmer’s case, the loaded dice are the mess made by the Tories, a mess Labour would not and could not have mitigated. The credulous public are those he hopes to persuade otherwise - that the dice are not loaded.

They and their entire establishment class have spent years loading the dice, and they did it in full view. There is only one future that you can have, and it is a Net Zero multi-racial surveillance province within the EU, with all the fun that can be confected to make your life seem meaningful.
May the best magician win!
Modern industry? Here in UK?
We'll soon put a stop to that.
Sam - yes they did it in full view. If you want to hide something in politics, bring it into the open and automatically allay suspicions.
Doonhamer - we'll put it under several different regulators with different requirements which are so complex that nobody understands them.
