Tories ‘serve no purpose’

Politics latest news: Tories ‘serve no purpose’, says Farage after Reform records highest ever support

The Conservative Party no longer serves a purpose, Nigel Farage claimed after Reform UK climbed to its highest ever level of support...

“This is not like Ukip, which was a way of saying to both Labour and the Tories ‘we hate your policies’.

“This is much more fundamental, much deeper, much more real. It’s a feeling that the Conservative Party doesn’t really exist anymore, that it serves no purpose.”

Farage does have a point - it is no longer clear what the purpose of the Conservatives might be. Even through the fog of political rhetoric it is possible to see very little which could be classed as conservative. Individuals within the party may be conservative, but the party itself isn't.

Labour serves no purpose either, but an outcome where both major parties crash and burn is too much to hope for.

Post-Uniparty politics coming up ... but not via Mr. Tice.

I am old enough to remember as far back as the 1945 election although I was a very young child at the time.I have been interested in politics in a half hearted sort of way since then.I have noticed that governments of both parties start to flag as they lose steam after several years in office.Even a titan like Thatcher lost control and was toppled by her own party which then proceeded to make a cock up of almost everything to be swept aside by Blair. He in turn lost direction and was only going through the motions.
I am no longer in the UK and can only shake my head in sorrow as I watch from afar as the childish squabbling goes on and the Tories head for the well deserved political wilderness.
Here in New Zealand the same thing has happened with the Wonder Woman Jacinda making a balls up of nearly everything .At least she read the runes correctly and bailed out early to leave her mates to attempt to pick up the pieces.
I really hope that Farage and Reform manage to pick up seats at the election and can build from there. The country really needs a genuine centre right party to counter the stupidities of all the left wing crap that has become so fashionable everywhere.

James - yes, it's a pity but not Mr. Tice.

John - my memory isn't as long as yours, but I know what you mean, parties do start to flag however strong the leader. They seem to be undermined by outside interests which learn to exaggerate and exploit every little weakness. Like many others, I watched Wonder Woman Jacinda from a distance and wondered how she ever climbed the greasy pole. But she did and demonstrated how voters are too easily persuaded by emotional appeal with nothing behind it but charlatans and racketeers.
