Gary Lineker: Match Of The Day host removes social media post calling for Israel to be banned from football
The 63-year-old shared a post by The Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI) calling for Israel to be banned from international football.
The former England star, now one of the highest profile presenters on the BBC, retweeted a post by The Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI) on X, formerly Twitter.
If he wishes to do these things as a private citizen he could leave the BBC and get on with it. No footballing tears would be shed.
There would be some regrets among those of us who rather like the way he keeps reminding people that the BBC is far from being politically neutral.

I think the BBC is probably as stupid and ineffective as it is politically motivated. Sure, they have it in for Israel, Trump, and blokes like Tommy Robinson. But I get the impression that their attempts to curb Lineker didn't fail because the top managers all feel like him and support him. I think they would genuinely like him to shut up a bit, but have no way of getting him to do it. They allowed him to work as a freelancer rather than an employee, and now are frightened of him leaving and making the same money elsewhere. He's got the upper hand, and knows it.
I used to like and buy Walker's Crisps before Gary Lineker fronted their adverts. But although he has been dropped from the latest adverts as far as I know he has not been dropped from an 'ambassadorial role'.
However it will take much more than dropping 'our Gary' for me to like the BBC again.
Until then - defund the BBC (and Gary Lineker).
Sam - I'm not sure that he would make the same money elsewhere. He's virtually a pensioner and online comments by football supporters don't show much enthusiasm for his role. Yet he does seem to be confident of having the upper hand for some reason which really isn't clear.
DJ - I agree, defund the BBC and Gary Lineker. Way past its sell-by date.
I understand that Lineker is now complaining that Netanyahu has described Manchester United as 'shit' and that Hartlepools United should have been promoted years ago. Our Gary has been said to moan that politicians have no place in criticising football, and they should stick to what they know best, without recourse of personal hatreds. I agree.

Penseivat - It's so typical of him too, moaning about politicians having no place in criticising football. It may be a BBC thing, treating their own political bias as being on a higher moral plane. I'm sure they are like that.
I am so sorry, AKH. My comment was supposed to be a humorous, sarcastic, parody of Mr L using his football platform to make personal, political, comments.
The first rule of comedy is that, if you have to explain it, it's not funny.
I will understand if you keep this just between you and me.

Penseivat - no it's my fault. I did get the joke but my mind wandered off into a particularly weak way of going along with it. I should have made it stronger - maybe something like Trump saying Lineker must have headed the ball too often.
