Scary

Spotted today, one of Elizabeth Skilton's pre-woke posters from the fifties. Much idealised of course, but an interesting reminder of social change. Three children, traditional social roles, no tattoos and a fossil fuel heater by the door. Scary.

Idealised, yes, but probably far less so than most art. Religious painting, abstract art, impressionism, cubism, etc., and anything lauded as "ethnic". Thank goodness there were some people who didn't insist on shocking us or "making us think".

Sam - lots of interest in there too, such as Grannie using the sewing machine instead of vegetating in a care home.

A fossil fuel heater?

That's a Witches Hat, no less. (Hat-tip: Incredible String Band)

We had one back then, used in the bedroom on cold nights; it made the most lovely soothing light patterns on the ceiling.

Peter - we have one converted to make a flickering light inside. Looks quite good at this time of year.
