What comes after boiling?

Climate change: July set to be world's warmest month on record

Amid blistering heatwaves, July is "virtually certain" to be the world's warmest month on record, say scientists.

So hot has the month been to date that researchers are confident the 2019 record will be broken, even with several days to go.

UN chief Antonio Guterres said the planet is entering an "era of global boiling".

It isn't easy to imagine what comes after "global boiling". Something like "global charring" perhaps. Or maybe "global smelting".

Global grilling.

Or if it's too humid, global sous vide.

Caramalisation.
Up here, North of the border the Beeb weather man spent half of his allotted slot trying to persuade us that despite what we could see out the window and had shivered through so far this year this was the Earth's hottest year since records began. Aye, right. He did not say if the records were LPs or 7 inch 45s.
Also we must look forward to floods and droughts.

Global Marinade?

We all strip off, get in the sea and start to smell of lobster...

DJ - global sous vide certainly seems to be the propaganda approach. Make us feel warmer by a relentlessly warming narrative.

Doonhamer - it's interesting that words such as "warm, warmth" and "warmer" seem to be replaced by "hot, heat" and "hotter", ramping it up by words rather than thermometer readings.

Scrobs - here in Blighty, people must have a lot to strip off before they get into the sea. The beach would be covered in discarded pullovers and anoraks.

I’m sure there are plenty of suitable terms to be found in the sermons of the more apocalyptic fire-and-brimstone preachers of the last century; nothing new, as they say, under the sun.

Meanwhile, if we are to strip off and head into the sea, Tom Lehrer provides a jolly song for the occasion (written about the atom bomb, but still entertainingly apt...)

Oh we will all fry together when we fry.
We'll be french fried potatoes by and by.
There will be no more misery
When the world is our rotisserie,
Yes, we will all fry together when we fry.

Macheath - it's spookily similar to preaching apocalyptic fire-and-brimstone isn't it? Over the years, finger-wagging about some dodgy graphs and predicted warmth has given way to something much more fiery in both respects.

dearieme - some weeks ago former work colleagues were chatting about headline claims that waterways were effectively being turned into open sewers. They are retired environmental scientists, but seemed quite surprised when I suggested they should check the data, preferably graphical, before believing media headlines.
