Free Green Energy

Lots of sense there!

I still cannot understand why tidal power isn't harnessed - at least it's a regular source...

All energy is free until you try to get it cooking your food or warming your house. Then some capitalist goes and ruins it all by charging you for it. If we get rid of capitalism, we'll all be warm and well-fed.

But only for 3 hours on alternate Tuesday afternoons, and as long as you like pottage.

Scrobs - from what I've read, tidal is very expensive.

Sam - careful, I think some BBC viewers actually believe that.

DJ - green pottage of course.

Sackers - in my case, yes.

All energy is free until you have to collect it, process it, get it to where it will be useful and then distribute it to millions of consumers.
Along the way there are all those wanting their cut. The land owners, the unionised work force, and worst of all the pollies with their "windfall" taxes.
Notice there is no windfall tax for big pharma. Go ahead, take as many billions as you want. We will exempt you from any blame for any consequences. We will even stifle any cheap competition.
Tidal power. Anything man/woman/etc. made in the water around Britain has to be taken out of the water every year or so and the ravages of salt water, salt laden damp air, constant mechanical disruption by storms, swells, tides put right. Not cheap.
Also the more energy you take out of the tides the further away the moon will orbit and our earth spin will slow down.

Doonhamer - yes, the standard of public energy debate is a disaster. A retired scientist once told me that tidal energy is free. I hardly knew what to say to him, but he watches the BBC and simply hadn't looked into it any further.
