Three of 'em are walnuts for sure. One looks to be an antique pair of nutcrackers. The dish is interesting. Is it some type of majolica? I knew someone who collected similar pieces, like big crinkly leaves of cabbage. A little goes a long way, as far as I'm concerned.

Sam - the whole thing is a single piece of pottery made by the Bretby Art Pottery in south Derbyshire round about 1900. It is so realistic that people tend to touch it just to reassure themselves that it isn't real. It was supposed to stimulate "innocent merriment at the dinner table".

It certainly fooled me! Innocently merry is what I am. Is it yours?

Sam - it is ours. They came in a number of designs and are pretty rare but fortunately not widely collected so not expensive.
