The trouble is, the coronavirus game cannot descend into farce if it is already there. Maybe that was always the cunning plan - go straight to the farce floor and stay there.
Apparently they were just using an Excel spreadsheet. Like you would use if you were self employed and keeping info on customers.
Long ago, I remember reading an argument that British distrust, cynicism, and bloody-mindedness regarding authority was given its modern form by the First World War. Ordinary soldiers realised that their officers were no more intelligent than average, and were frequently clueless. I think we might be in for another wave of general cynicism.
Sam - I agree, the First World War seemed to trigger something like that, although cynics still don't appear to have have a political home. The cynic in me thinks that may be deliberate.
Scrobs - Excel is fine for small scale work but these chaps appear to have been pushing it too far.
