Quite mad, I suppose as nothing else is planned for back up we will be at the mercy of the French and Norwegians to let us have ever more of their excess energy when the wind doesn't blow as is so often the case in deepest winter, still with all the smart meters being installed rationing will be easy to implement, onwards and upwards.

Set the windmills up by Westminster and Brussels, the guff should be enough to power Western Europe.

Wiggia - yes it's quite mad. Probably best seen as partly a scam and partly political malice as well as raw stupidity.

Sackers - or power those places with wind only.

As was said of the Armada: "God blew, and they were scattered."

Soon to happen to the Tories, methinks.

Apart from the fact that they don't work very well, wind turbines often go into those Tory shires guaranteed to kick up a fuss. And they are not even very green, because apparently the blades are normally carbon fibre and are a bugger to recycle, and last a gazillion years.

Ships return to dry dock every two years for a full engineering check out.
Those windmills out in North Sea on their little steel tripods will last 25 years. Aye, right.
The sea creatures will love the extremely low frequency pressure waves but they will feed well on the dead birds.
The ideal height for any incoming attacking aircraft, manned or unmanned will be between the sea level and bottom of windmill blade at its lowest.
Defence radar will be blinded by windmill blades with speed varying between zero at hub to over 180 mph at tip. However did Mr. Putin get us to install these jammers. The 21st Century's very own wind-jammers.

Sam - the blades are a problem and I'm not sure what they do with the massive concrete base once the windmill reaches the end of its life. Boris won't worry about that though - beyond his horizon.

Doonhamer - I'm no engineer, but even if they do last 25 years in the North Sea, surely the maintenance costs will make grim reading.
