The crumbling of the EU empire

The crumbling of the EU empire has become even more obvious since the Brexit vote. It seems to be something many Leave voters foresaw while Remainers didn't.

During the good times the Board of any company can direct the activities of that company without any fuss, even if their directions are less than optimal. When times are hard the Board has to address the new problems and cannot rely on previous behaviour to see the company prosper. Indeed pointing to mission statements and past glories is no longer enough and actually harmful.

I am glad we left, even if 'taking back control' is only partially implemented as yet. Starmer is at heart a bureaucrat (as are many other MPs and Civil Servants (obviously)) and wants to echo the old Board because to 2T it represents the good times - even though they have now passed.

Starmer wants to join our trailer to the back of a broken down bus. I am not happy at the thought of surrendering control before we explore the full unfolding of that concept. What with the attacks on Free Speech and two tier policing it's almost as if we are to be governed by Brussels-on-Thames. My only hope is that the EU will implode before we get sucked back in.

Thanks for that - an excellent little video. It's good to see some hard facts presented, where what we tend to get from the Europhiles is vague wafty stuff about guaranteeing peace and being able to get hold of fresh pasta and decent coffee.

I won't be expecting an imminent demise, though. Just as Adam Smith said there was a "great deal of ruin in a nation", there's probably a lot that the bureaucrats can do in order to keep the gravy-train running for themselves. But with luck, as things get worse over there, it should cause the pro EU lot to pipe down.

The First Reich lasted much longer. So did the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Even the Second Reich lasted longer. (I'm dating the EU from the Lisbon Treaty of 2009.) At least this Fourth Reich outlasted the Third Reich: there is that.

Look on the bright side. Once Starmer and the bolsheviks use our money to return to the EUSSR we'll be able get into our rubber boats and leave them to complete the thirdworldisation of this increasingly septic isle.

DJ - yes that's a good comparison, the life of a Board is easier during the good times. I think you are right about needing the EU to implode before we are sucked back in. At least we need it to be struggling in ways which not even enthusiasts could miss.

Sam - I was thinking about that Adam Smith quote as I posted the video. The EU has a great deal of ruin in it, possibly enough for many decades such that the pro EU lot never do pipe down.

dearieme - I wonder how senior EU bods look at the longevity of their project? Some may think in terms of permanence on a par with the Holy Roman Empire even if they don't make a direct comparison with the EU. The Holy European Empire perhaps.

Jannie - many seem keen on leaving already, but where to go may be a problem. Somewhere warm.

Something many leave voters foresaw that remainers didn't. Oh yes indeed.

Tammly - and some of them still don't see it.
