Every little irritant helps

Gary Lineker addresses future as Match Of The Day presenter

Gary Lineker has laughed off rumours about his future as presenter of Match Of The Day - revealing contract talks with the BBC have "just started".

MailOnline reported it had seen an email purportedly from BBC bosses preparing to announce the 63-year-old's departure from the broadcaster.

I hope he stays, I'm sure he must be a factor in people dumping the TV licence. Not a major factor, but every little irritant helps.

Point taken, but I'd rather they got shot of him. While he's on the box, people will be inclined to listen to his views just because he is famous. I want him to fade into the background of pastel-coloured midwits.

If we can't have a good sex scandal, that is, or maybe a racist outburst where he calls Ian Wright the un-repeatable word.

The programme hasn't been as good since Alan Hansen was pushed out. Getting rid of Lineker and Shearer could improve it enormously depending on who replaces them. I once heard that Emma Hayes bird doing some football analysis. Most impressive, and a speech therapist could improve her voice but, alas, she'd probably prefer the job she's got now.

For a quarter of Shearer's money I would promise to turn up every Saturday and say "He's got to run in behind, Gary, he's got to want it more, and he's got to hit the back of the net."

Get shot. If only as an example to other luvvies that 'Go woke, go broke' is gaining ground.

I am perfectly happy for anyone, even know-nothing celebs, to indulge in legally acceptable 'free' speech... but that doesn't mean that there should be no social consequences. The Progressives get peer-approval for their virtue signalling, perhaps that has to change.

Sam and DJ - I'd like to see him go too, but I'd prefer to see him spouting off and messing up a BBC desire to become taxpayer funded. Yes, a good scandal would be even better and getting rid of him would be an indication that 'Go woke, go broke' is gaining ground, but I think he's a thorn in the BBC side which could still fester a little more.

dearieme - I haven't watched it for years and never thought much Lineker or Shearer - I'm surprised Shearer is still there. There must be many retired professionals who could do it at least as well for less and do it with more earthy conviction.
