Nothing to see

We whizzed off to Matlock for a short walk today. Set off with a few concerns about the recent killer heat bomb or whatever it’s called, because obviously we expected to encounter a number of distressing scenes.

For example, we thought we might come across stalled cars with folk inside who had sadly succumbed to the scary red blobs on Met Office maps. Didn’t see one though – quite surprising really. Air-conditioning must have worked I suppose.

There were no dead fish floating belly-up down the river Derwent either. We stood on the bridge for a moment and had a good look but no – not one dead fish. No dead ducks on the boating pond either.

Just luck I suppose.

I'm surprised about the fish and ducks. The BBC had an article saying how if you bought some and released them in the morning, you could collect them nicely cooked by supper time. A drizzle of oil and some salt if you like them nice and crispy.

I biked over to our local reservoir yesterday, under cloudy skies!

At least half-full, and I remember seeing just the original feeder stream and absolutely no water just a few years ago, before globule worming became the mantra for the globulists...

Went around the supermarket for a 'light shop' on the hottest day and was surprised at how pleasant it was. Especially in the air conditioned supermarket. The lollies and icecream sections in the freezers were thinned but not empty. It seems that 'normality' was the best description, no armageddon, hell on earth, we're all going to die etc. as pushed by the comics (newspaper and broadcasters). There's little interest in 'normality'.

There was a wiff of smoke in the early evening though as a grass fire broke out a mile away. But still no deaths.

Sam - it's a pity really, because there are plenty of tender young ones about.

Scrobs - drizzle here this morning and cool. A complete change but I quite like it. We'll probably stroll into town later.

DJ - we nipped into the Co-op for a few odds and ends and it felt cold inside. Plenty of people shopping.
