Failing the smell test

Even if we put the science to one side, the climate change narrative doesn’t pass normal human smell tests. The behaviour it generates, the behaviour we see from its supporters and promoters, these behaviours don’t fit the narrative.

We don't see behaviour we should see.

We do see behaviour we shouldn’t see.

Wealthy supporters still fly their private jets to climate change events.

Political supporters still fly all over the world to climate change events.

Where is the computer which predicted climate disaster decades ago? It should be in a museum but isn’t.

Where is the computer software which predicted climate disaster decades ago? A functionally exact version of it could be available online by now, available to download and run on modern devices but isn’t.

Where is the basic equation linking global temperature and atmospheric CO2 concentrations? Even a simplified version should have been printed on millions of T-shirts years ago. It should be more famous than E=mc2 but isn’t.

Who are the scientists who came up with the catastrophic relationship linking global temperature and atmospheric CO2 concentrations? They should be more famous than Einstein but they aren’t.

Why hasn’t the developed world been building nuclear power stations as fast as possible over the past thirty years? The most blindingly obvious low-emission power source – where is it?

Why is the climate change narrative promoted by celebrities, journalists, politicians and even children who clearly do not understand scientific integrity? Because the science has no integrity. This is a wholly political project.

It smells wrong because it is. It smells political because it is. It smell corrupt because it is.

As the French say, 'Money has no smell.'

This is one to cut out and keep, or at least memorise the key points as ammunition.

At the very lowest level, things don't smell right. Most of the people who want to lecture me about global warming or climate change take holidays overseas. They consume more than I do. None have dispensed with their gas boiler or - in these parts - their fuel oil deliveries. Lots of them burn wood. The most hysterical ones who believe that collapse and death is imminent seem to maintain a bank account, and maintain their massively expensive houses in good order, intending allow their children to inherit them.

When asked whether I'm a "climate change sceptic", I reply that I most certainly am. I'm sceptical that these people actually believe what they claim to believe. Being retired, I have no constraints upon me other than basic good manners, and a desire not to embarrass my wife, who is the village priest and has to get on with these people. I'm going to start pushing back harder against these bandwagon-jumpers and bullshitters.

Sackers - yet oddly enough, subsidy seems to have a very strong smell.

Sam - it's a ticklish social situation because as you say, the climate faithful don't behave as if they actually believe what they claim to believe. To my mind it casts doubt on common assumptions about how we think and how we seem to adopt ideas. As if it is more like learning a language than learning facts about reality.

Doonhamer - ha ha, very good. I think we all smell it, but not everyone says so.

Exactly! And it completely ignores and seeks to hide historical evidence of climate.

Woodsy - yes it does - in much the same way that totalitarian regimes rewrite history.
