Little Red Wokehood

Little Red Wokehood meets Reality
source

As we know, Grimm’s fairy tales were at least partly intended to instil obedience into children. Those dark forests full of lurking dangers such as wolves, witches and the equally frightful prospect of becoming lost among huge gloomy trees.

As we also know, governments spin scary fairy tales for much the same reason except this time both adults and children are supposed to be scared into general obedience. We have seen the most blatant example of this during the coronavirus debacle.

Wolves are real and so is the virus, and like the wolf, the virus nobbles granny first. But of course the Grimm-like threat is exaggerated. Yet it seems more than likely that this fairy story will continue on into the future in one form or another.

Book 2 is probably already written about the evil wizard Influenza. The only spell able to save us is a magic potion stored in a hypodermic syringe.

Woke stories have much the same aim. Fairy tales about climate change, far right wolves roaming the forests where decent folk don't go. Tales of an enchanted green land where unfortunately the wrong word can put you under an evil spell and only a kiss from a polyamorous gender fluid princess sets you free. It’s all about obedience.

It's been argued that we should be called the 'story telling' species. I expect our desire for 'narratives' is driven by a very basic instinct to tease 'predictability' out of chaos. Our species currently tends to detect order (and agency) where there is none - for it is a more successful survival strategy to 'detect' a snake or lion rather than wait for later confirmation.

So, fairy tales make order and predictability out of the chaos of the world. Perhaps this is why conspiracies are born. Any 'explanation' is better than none. You could even argue that the Woke are creating their narrative by reducing everything to the 'certainty' of 'racism' alone being at the root of all evil.

Interesting comparison, especially as wolf attacks are extremely rare, and witches turned out to be harmless old women. Healthy adults in my part of West Sussex should certainly wear masks and avoid social gatherings, much as they should carry a high velocity rifle and a charm against the evil eye.

If the authorities were actually keeping us in order to some purpose, I could forgive their foray into mythology and storytelling. Why are they doing it? My best guesses so far:

1) They are just covering up their earlier blunders, because current political culture is unforgiving of honest mistakes.

2) They are jittery about overpopulation and need to get us nice and docile in order to keep everyone safe. They believe that the age of individualism, autonomy and creativity is past.

3) As per 2) above, plus the fact that they are planning or expecting mass migrations.

4) Some people are just cautious authoritarians, and the rise of the internet has given them more opportunities.

Sam, perhaps it's that:

5) The jabs are the first round in a never-ending series of attempts to control human health, using the new (partly-tested and unsafe) technique of mRNA.
6) Substitute the word 'health' above for less positive outcomes, such as life, independence, fertility, etc.

I'm horrified by how easily some people I know, mostly very intelligent, highly educated and politically diverse individuals, have acquiesced to the control and jabs. I suspect they watch the relentless crap on TV and their resistance to bullshit is now low.

DJ - simple stories may be the problem. Easier on the brain, easier to remember and that is probably a survival characteristic. It may be a survival advantage to minimise brain calories so we gravitate towards the simple predigested stories most people seem to accept. As we know, any explanation isn't better than none, but it feels that way.

Sam - yes current political culture is unforgiving of honest mistakes and it seems to be a huge problem. We have no political capacity to feel our way through things and change course easily if it becomes clear that we should. As if too many people just don't like change. Of course the comfortable ones don't.

Ed - for most there is no real choice but to go along with things or risk falling out with friends and family, or risk being refused entry to various places. Most just seem to shrug and go with the drift of things. It's how societies work but also a vulnerability of course.
