A different kind of political world

Lots of common sense from Neil Oliver. When did it become uncommon? We'll have to stop using the term.

Good stuff towards the end on the incomprehensibility of lots of modern language. And I like the bit about how telling the truth makes life simpler because you don't have to remember anything. I think the two points are related, in that people get jobs and public positions through lying, and then have to embark upon a career of perpetual obscurantism in order to survive.

One of the sayings passed down through the memsahib's family: "a liar has to have a good memory"

Sam - and that career of perpetual obscurantism suits like-minded colleagues. As if entire organisations fail to keep things simple by encouraging truthfulness and eventually become mired in complexities.

Jannie - many members of the political classes seem to give up on that and rely on brazening it out.
