Burnham latest: Labour MP unveils 'No 10 North' in 10-year policy plan
Andy Burnham has confirmed plans to create a “No 10 in the North” as part of his 10-year vision for a “new era” in Britain.
The Labour MP, who is expected to replace Sir Keir Starmer as prime minister next month, declared plans for a “rewired Britain” through devolution as he lamented his generation of politicians for failing to be “good enough” to create change in the country.
Speaking at the People’s History Museum in Manchester, Mr Burnham was met with raucous applause as he outlined a vision of reindustrialisation, a high street renaissance and the “biggest council house building programme since post-war period”.
This is political theatre.

But we know that, we've seen the play too often.
Yet the Labour Party and much of the media seem to have decided that more arm-wavy political theatre is to be an antidote to the grey incompetence of Keir Starmer.
Hmm - even at this stage Burnham, comes across as no more convincing than Starmer. Assuming he is successfully parachuted into the role of UK Prime Minister, the indications are that he will resemble the man he replaces quite closely apart from the rhetorical tone - he won't know what to do.
There isn't much Burnham can usefully do anyway, not within the confines of Labour Party baggage and there is not the slightest indication that he knows how to escape that, or wants to. More of the same but worse is the message so far.

Mandy Burnham will be worse than Von Starmer. A vacuous, feminist, liar type of buffoon. His honeymoon period will last about 2 weeks before he is seen by most as another self serving b'stard. The scum party is full of crazies who haven't grown out of their student angst.
Talking of political theatre I learned today about a fascinating little corner of US political history. In the late 18th century slavery was banned in a stretch of territory in what now called the Midwest. But one part of the area declined to do so, being the state of Indiana.
Why? Because they didn't want to annoy one of their major Indian tribes that kept lots of slaves. Did you ever?
Perhaps Burnham is a 'machine politician' (Dictionary.com: An administration of elected public officials who use their influential positions to solidify and perpetuate the power of their political party, often through dubious means ) and depends on the machine for his support. But the Manchester machine is not the Westminster machine.
Mike - "The scum party is full of crazies who haven't grown out of their student angst."
I agree, voting for them is an absurd thing to do, they will never get to grips with the real world as they never had to in the past.
dearieme - that's a most interesting find. My word - is that an early example of woke politics? Is nothing original?
The whole theatre might have been entertaining, had it not been for the very high stakes, the danger we are being plunged into, their total lack of responsible behaviour.
James - yes, it's not a comfortable situation. We expect most politicians to know the difference between responsible in irresponsible behaviour, but that's not a sound expectation.
When will he announce a Chequers of the north?
DJ - yes, that seems to be a major criticism already - he expects to run Westminster via the Manchester machine.
dearieme - when he has spotted a suitable stately home perhaps.
