Petrol and diesel lorry ban considered by Labour in latest part of controversial net-zero drive

Ministers have announced that fossil fuel-powered trucks will no longer be sold and have ruled out allowing the continued use of low-carbon or synthetic fuels.

The latest eco dive means that all new heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) will have to be electric from 2040.

Labour keep overlooking the twisted rubber band as a source of motive power.

It's odd given what twisters they are.

Perhaps we will have special 'traction engine shows' - but in two sections? One for steam and one for diesel.

Maybe technology will improve but according to AI: "Lithium-ion batteries have a specific energy (energy per unit mass) of approximately 150–250 Wh/kg, while gasoline has a specific energy of about 12,000–12,700 Wh/kg, making gasoline roughly 50 to 80 times more energy-dense by weight than current lithium-ion batteries."

And what is that load? It's a grid transformer - one of many that will be needed if mad Ed's Net Zero project is to succeed. Now try pulling a load like that for more than a few miles with an electric truck...

dearieme - good idea, they are energetic twisters too so a reasonable amount of energy could be recovered.

James - yes it's what socialism sells, not so much class warfare as class kleptomania.

DJ - yes it's madness. May as well stay with the madness and ask if a really long extension lead would work instead.

Anon - and imagine having to drive it around looking for a charging point.

So, a fraction of the transport, so a fraction of the commerce and a fraction of the food. Wonderful!

As every Fire Engine I have seen is based on a truck chassis, presumably that means Fire Engines will be electric too. " Sorry, we cant attend your fire as the engine is recharging. See you in about 12 hours time. "

Tammly - and if the birth rate doesn't pick up, a fraction of the workers to keep it all going.

John - good point, it's all so ignorant that there must be a Master Plan. The trouble is, that would be based on ignorance too.

A fire engine is basically a massive water pump directly connected to an engine. And as such the engine is expected to run for hours when at a fire to drive the pump to provide water pressure to the hoses. Its not just there to propel the vehicle down the road. So its also a case of 'Sorry we'll have to let your block of flats burn down now as all our batteries have gone flat and we can't run the pumps any more'.

Testing...

Sobers - that's a good point. Back to the rain dance we go.

Dave - has it worked?

Maybe - I've been having great difficulty making comments on "Blogger" sites for a long time. I have tried all the posted suggestions, and none are conclusive. The only thing that does seem to work is using my mobile broadband router which gives a different IP. But I thought I would try not putting a user name to the post I made yesterday @ 19:17. That worked, hence my "Testing" post.

The only "Climate Emergency" is with the Political Climate - and it's truly Global. For those who are capable of pattern recognition, it seems clear that most world climate, environmental, health, economic, political and food supply crises have 2 common factors. One, that they will ultimately end up causing "Biblical" proportions of population reduction. And two, that they are ultimately funded by WEF/Davos types like George Soros, Clause Schwab, Bill Gates, etc., and their ilk.

What was I saying yesterday about transformers & Net Zero?

https://www.edp24.co.uk/news/25763674.12mph-norfolk-abnormal-load-means-part-a47-will-closed/

It may ONLY be about 50 miles from KL to Norwich, but there isn't a hope in hell that distance could be covered by EV trucks dealing with a gross weight of over 400 tons. Oh, and the trailer needs a diesel engine (maybe one at each end?) to power the hydraulics...

Anon - yes it's a global theme. They even use the same words, phrases and slogans to push it, as if they think enough voters don't notice, although they may be partly right about that.

Dave - I'm not sure why comments can be problematic. It always works for me but it would, it knows who I am.

Thanks for the link, apart from highlighting the impossibility of transporting such huge loads via EV, it also highlights how much serious 'investment' has been wasted on this nonsense. Lost opportunities on a vast scale.

I wonder whether the costs of these transformers and the massive hassle involved in moving them around are included in Mad Ed’s admitted costs of “renewable” energy?

Actually I don’t wonder, I’m perfectly sure they’re not included.
