German media faces political censorship under EU-driven legislation

German newsrooms and tech companies may soon face searches and material seizures without a judicial warrant under a new draft law approved by the federal cabinet.

The news has raised alarm over an EU-driven expansion of state oversight of the media in Germany...

The draft law seeks to transpose EU rules on political advertising into German national law in what has been called a strict and intrusive form.

Legal experts warn it poses a serious threat to freedom of expression, largely because it relies on EU regulations which define “political advertising” broadly and vaguely.

Starmer prepares Brexit 'reset' bill to align UK with EU law

Sir Keir Starmer is preparing a bill which would hand ministers powers to bring the UK into alignment with EU law, as part of an attempt to reduce paperwork and boost growth in Britain.

The bill, which will be brought forward this year as part of the government’s Brexit reset, would give ministers overarching powers to bring the UK in line with EU law in certain areas, such as food standards, animal welfare and pesticide use – a process known as dynamic alignment.

"...as part of an attempt to reduce paperwork and boost growth in Britain."

Merely an excuse, an attempt at justification. The UK could reduce paperwork and boost growth through its own efforts far easier than signing up to a foreign empire. I suspect Keir Stumbler and his chums ache to achieve greater collectivization as a step along the path towards a global socialist utopia. They are fools.

To think that there are still probably people who claim the Nazis lost, eh?

We've been in the EU for donkeys years. When we finally left, May brought all EU law into UK law.
So we've been out for a short time and we are no longer in line with EU law?

I know our useless shower haven't repealed any laws, so I can only conclude that the EU have farted out far more guff in the short time we've been away, than we have here
And some people want back in?

DJ - I agree, Stumbler is a fool and a global collectivist. He's a fanatic as well as a fool and that's possibly all that drives him politically.

dearieme - yes, ideologues don't lose, they adapt.

Bucko - a large number of people appear to see the EU as a shelter against something, possibly a confused mix of personal responsibility, economic trends and simple fear of the unknown.

Imagine how affronted Stumbler would be if a right wing leader angled for tighter integration with the USA? Well that's how affronted I feel about Sneak Rejoin.

One country, where people are allowed to do anything, unless it is illegal, being forced, politically, to join a group of countries where people are not allowed to do anything unless told it's ok (common law v Napoleonic law). What could go wrong?
We really are governed by numpties.

DJ - yes, I can imagine how affronted Stumbler would be about tighter integration with the USA, but many of his followers would shout and scream and froth at the mouth.

Penseivat - yes we are governed by numpties. Some are charlatans in it for their own interests, but many seen to believe what they say.

Surkier is a lawyer.
Anything that makes more work for lawyers is a " Good Thing".
Meanwhile the EU is circling the gurgler.
German industry is fleeing to other countries, France is not a happy, unified, nation. Dutch farmers are revolting. A few nations would like to unstick themselves from the EU tar-baby.

Doonhamer - yes, the EU is circling the gurgler and Surkier seems to be the only one who doesn't know it.
