Another tipping point

UK weather: Why is it so cold right now?

The UK is in the grip of a spell of severe cold weather, with snow and ice warnings in place in Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the east coast of England.

Forecasters think we're likely to be experiencing icy temperatures until at least early next week and maybe beyond that, but what's causing the cold snap and should we be surprised?

Naturally the word 'climate' is excluded from the article for familiar reasons. It's a tipping point. Spells of warm weather are due to climate change, but when cold spells come along, the explanation tips over into 'weather'. Simple really.

And here's another tip! I was at the front of my canal side cottage this morning, sweeping up willow leaves, when along came the old retail fuel narrow boat, which delivered my one ton of house coal I've mentioned before. Being friendly with the barge man, we exchanged talk about the cold weather. His friend at the wholesaler, who sells him his coal said, 'we've just had an order for five tons of house coal for, you'll never guess where? Windsor Castle!'.
'It gets better,' my bargee friend went on, 'he said a few weeks ago they had an order for three tons- from 10 Downing Street.'
Our virtue signalling elites are full of shi...coal!

Tammly - interesting and remarkable how often elites turn out to be hypocrites. If this gets out, Charles will become known as Old King Coal.

And perhaps Riche Nuttyslack?

We had a frosty morning: sunny, clear sky, and 2C. It's striking how many of the trees still have leaves gamely hanging on.

Tammly - I wonder how many people know what nutty slack is now. Charles probably doesn't know - minions deal with that.

dearieme - very heavy frost, blue sky and -2C here this morning. Some trees have a few leaves and even a touch of colour, but not many.

For goodness sake! Its a typical UK cold snap. It is winter after all. Why does everyone act as if its never been cold before?

Sobers - they seem so addicted to drama that they are prepared to inject it into anything. I've been wondering what will come next after naming even fairly innocuous storms.
