Man riding e-scooter killed after collision with car in London
Police were called by the London Ambulance Service around 5.40pm on Sunday to Tower Hamlets to reports of a collision involving a car and an e-scooter. The driver of the car, a blue Kia, failed to stop at the scene.
We see more and more of these scooters zooming around on roads and pavements. With dark clothing and no helmet, riders don't seem to be aware that they are visually small and not not easily spotted by other, much bigger road users. They seem to be good at appearing unexpectedly too.

I suppose it was inevitable, given the increasing infantilisation of the population - endless treats and pop music, brightly-coloured product packaging, cartoonish advertising and the playground ephemera of social media - that ride-on toys should be increasing in popularity.
Macheath - yes, they seem to be little more than ride-on toys. I'm still surprised to see apparently fit adults using them.
And yet... it's another example of the diffidence of the Police Service. It's illegal to ride e-scooters on public roads (including footpaths) in most parts of the UK. Do we see scooter riders being stopped by the police? Do we see scooters being seized? Nope.
Just like cyclists riding without lights at night or ignoring other road laws. Arrest a few, seize their bikes, they would soon get the message.
I've suggested elsewhere that the Police could have special weeks for cracking down on such things, but there seems to be little appetite for putting forth the effort.
They are also of course illegal to use on public roads, outside of a couple of pilot areas.
But nobody seems to care about that or do anything to enforce it.
DJ and Peter - yes, there does not seem to be much interest in the illegal use of them. They are bound to be illegal on public roads round here because there is no official trial.
