The Wrong Horoscope

'Landmark ruling' sees government's net-zero strategy ruled 'unlawful'

Campaigners said the "illegality" of the government's flagship climate change strategy was "a huge political embarrassment".

A landmark court judgment has ruled the UK government's net-zero strategy is in breach of the law - as it doesn't explain how targets will be met.

It sounds as if there was a climate horoscope mix-up here. It’s hard to say exactly what went wrong, but it may be something to do with Mercury mincing into the wrong Quadrant.

Don’t whisper it within the astral plane before take-off, but there is also a rumour going round that the Minister intoned the Twelve Carbon Mantras in the wrong order while wearing odd socks. An unnamed but a very senior Master of Carbon Astrology thinks this could explain the current spell of hot weather.

Certainly the legislation concerning 'carbon net zero' is a crime against humanity.

Tammly - yes, morally it is a crime.

This could actually be very funny. From the article:

"According to Friends of The Earth, the government will now have to update its climate strategy to include a quantified account of how its policies will achieve targets, based on a realistic assessment of what it expects them to deliver"

I think it is more than possible that the government will be unable to do this. Or, even better, when it says how it will deliver, the public might see for the first time what they have signed up for. Reality is about to be exposed. I wonder whether those bringing the legal action really wanted that?

Us carbon-based life-forms must resist this nonsense. 400ppm atmospheric CO2 is increasing crop growth. More-accurate recent temperature measurements (by satellite, rather than from thermometers next to runways, etc.) show it's all rubbish.

Also, it's now estimated that CO2 levels which could possibly be under human control amount to barely 8% of all the natural CO2 releases (with the UK's proportion approx 2% of worldwide releases). 0.08 x 0.02 = 0.0016, i.e. if the UK stopped ALL human CO2 releases (including breathing out?), it would reduce worldwide CO2 releases by 1600ppm, or 1/625th. That's the reduction in releases, not the reduction in temperature attributed to CO2.

Utter bullshit, although many corrupted scientists have made careers from it. And now all the idiots wishing to follow Boris agree with this nonsense - TINA

Foe might have made a tactical error. If the public gets sight of the implications, there will be tractors in Whitehall

Sam - yes it could backfire rather badly. Net Zero can't realistically expect to deliver anything and demonstrating otherwise may require more blatant dishonesty than civil servants can stomach.

e - yes the whole thing is utter bullshit and many corrupted scientists have made careers from it. Some of them must know it or at least feel uneasy about what is being sold to the public.

Graeme - and sooner or later the public is bound to get wind of the implications.

All the next PM need do is announce that the net zero deadline is being extended to 2099, to give time for technologies to be developed and tested, blah, blah, blah.

dearieme - I can only assume they want someone else to kick that can down the road. But it's still odd because it seems like a quick, and politically a fairly painless win.
