Nudge Nudge Nudge

Men under 40 shouldn't have more than a shot glass of beer per day, new study suggests

The researchers called for stronger guidance to warn younger adults of the health dangers posed by drinking and said there should be tailored alcohol guidance to depend on a person's age and where they live in the world.

Modern life eh? Nudge, nudge, nudge...

And yet... if 'research' showed that men with a particular metabolism and type of employment (e.g. miners) could safely drink 6 pints of beer a day then this qualification would mysteriously not be reported.

Plus if you reduce the risk of disease and death associated with alcohol then you increase the risk of disease and death from other causes. Now, as it happens, I'm not a big drinker but since we are all going to die of *something* I would like to make an informed choice of how I live, not stitch together miscellaneous advice hoping that it will work.

At a fiver a pint, I'm not surprised!

And yes, DJ, miners needed that to replace the sweat from the underground toil!

ps, AK, is Marston's Pedigree still the best beer around Derby? Great pint back then...

"Women aged 39 and under can have a little more - two tablespoons of wine"

There's no logical reason why wine has to be drunk from a glass, rather than spooned up from a bowl like soup.

"Free spoons at Wetherspoons".

I'm old. What's a "shot glass"?

Luckily I am in my mid 50's so I can have ten beers today during and after sauna.

DJ - we're not big drinkers either. We're virtually teetotal but you are right, if we don't die from one thing it will be something else. Dementia may become more likely too.

Scrobs - I haven't tried Marston's Pedigree for years - we're virtually teetotal these days but the best beers round here are brewed by a host of small breweries. A chap we know slightly brews some very good beers.

Sam - it could become a communal thing like fondues. Smaller spoons could be used to make it last.

dearieme - I think it's a small glass like a medicine glass where you knock back the drink in one go as with medicine.

Anon - or during the sauna to help with the perspiration.

dearieme - yes, if the drink is any good it should be sipped.
