Even an MP could understand this

I guess it depends on what people think the hidden costs and long-term consequences of the alternatives are. People who are terrified of climate change scenarios are prepared to pay a lot more for electricity than they do now. Especially if they are wealthy and economically insulated against price increases. Frugality is tolerable if it doesn't actually involve dying from cold.

Not totally sure, AKH, if the MP is even inclined to understand such matters. No political will.

Sam - to my mind it feels like middle class people being afraid that everything will be used up and those are the hidden costs and long-term consequences they bother about. They seem to favour anything purporting to tackle that fear however batty and expensive.

James - I'm sure many do understand it, but don't care because for them it has no political value. They just shut it out.
