SNP handed stark wake-up call over frittering away £100m ScotWind revenues to balance books
John Swinney has been told to draw up a long-term plan for his flagship energy policy after a damning investigation by Scotland’s spending watchdog.
The Scotsman revealed in February that Audit Scotland had launched a probe into the finances around the ScotWind projects, with the findings highly critical of SNP ministers for a lack of transparency.
The investigation has also warned that Scottish government ministers plundering ScotWind funds to plug budget gaps risks “weakening budgetary control” and could exacerbate Holyrood’s fiscal crisis as Mr Swinney seeks to reform public services.
Scottish government ministers risk weakening budgetary control by plundering ScotWind revenues eh? What do we say to that?
HS2, Hinkley Point, Net Zero...
It's how these things are done. Budgetary control isn't easy and in general the political class avoids anything which isn't easy. Plundering is easier, it fits their furtive nature, their political style.

Can we join in on the next independence referendum?
I have to wonder how many of these SNP politicians have campervans parked on their parents driveways?
Penseivat
Mike - that's how it should be done in this case, independence works both ways.
Penseivat - ha ha, good point, time to check those driveways.
Mendacious and furtive ... yes.
I'd go further, devolution right back to how it was when Britain was a resounding success story.
That means responsibility for raising finance & spending at shire / town council level- no nationa targets, minimum expectations etc.
Make it a real postcode lottery.
Its notable that so called devolution actually resulted in more centralisation of power than ever before in Cardiff, Edinburgh & London.
As always - not what the MSM & those in power like to tell us.
James - and it doesn't even work for them.
Nessimmersion - I agree, centralisation hasn't been a success,. Contact with shire/town voters has been lost and nothing has been gained as personal civic responsibility has seeped away until many voters don't seem to know what it is.
Ah how eras change. The Scots once had a reputation for being a canny folk. But not nowadays when they are regarded as a lot of woke idiots.
Tammly - it's extremely disappointing too, even from this side of the border. A strong, traditional example of how things should be done would have made a vast difference to the whole of the UK.
