It’s very nice that you’re here

Awkward! Starmer drops smile as Trump turns back on him at Middle East peace summit

Thanking a list of countries for their work in international conflicts, Trump mentioned Britain before turning to look for the prime minister who was standing among world leaders behind him.

“Where is the United Kingdom?” he asked, prompting Sir Keir to step forward and greet the US President.

The prime minister walked up towards the lectern to speak to Trump, shaking his hand and looking ready to address reporters gathered.

But Trump quickly took command of the microphone again, saying to Sir Keir: “Has everything gone good… it’s very nice that you’re here.”

By gum Starmer is embarrassing. We're off out into Derbyshire this morning, but I don't know what else to add as I can't work out what the blue blazes he thinks he's doing there.

Oh well, time for some fresh air.

Like so many before him he's hoping that the statesmanship some show might rub off and stick . . .

It doesn't take long to realise that Starmer is, in reality, a small town solicitor who somehow found the golden ticket and been promoted way above his abilities. Either that, or has been chosen to be the puppet of a higher seat, and is willing to be continually humiliated as long as he can dine at the top table.

Enjoy Derbyshire! We were there at the weekend (around Kinder) and it was absolutely gorgeous. Couldn't have asked for better weather. What a lovely area it is.

Jannie - that's one of the disadvantages of being a Teflon man, even a tiny amount of statesmanship won't stick.

Penseivat - he could be a puppet because he has only been an MP for 10 years. A Labour MP once asked who he was and how he rose through the party so quickly - it was a good question and still worth asking.

Peter - we only went as far as Bakewell today, a town where we go fairly regularly but it was good to get out into the countryside. Dull weather but it didn't matter, lots of autumn colour brought out what a delightful time of year it can be.

I saw it on Talk TV. It was a wonder to behold and very enjoyable!

James - it's calming rather than exciting, unless you come across three lots of roadworks on the way.

Tammly - I couldn't watch it, too embarrassing.
