Obvious Enough

Oh, Lord, there are a lot of spots in life the mind of the average man and woman never touches at all. I wonder why not? Everything—at least most things—are obvious enough.

Sherwood Anderson - Dark Laughter (1925)

There are many things we should see if elites actually believe the orthodox climate narrative. Yet it is only a Malthusian political tool so we don’t see what we should. There are many pointers to this - flying around in private jets is only one. Of course the private jets also tell us how gullible they think we are.

Here in the UK, another pointer is immigration. From the orthodox climate narrative it follows that for years we have been importing millions of individual carbon footprints. To avoid this, a tough limit on immigration would have been put in place at least twenty years ago. As a matter of course it would also have been part of Net zero.

Everything—at least most things—are obvious enough.

Yes, another clue is how "seriously" climate activists take this. We've lived through a time when people murdered innocent women and children to make their point, took up arms against professional soldiers, and even blew up and nearly killed the British Prime Minister. That was over which flag should fly over an economically insignificant part of the E.U.

Now, over the extinction of the human race and the obliteration of every culture, what do we see? Comfortable retired people gluing themselves to roads, and kids throwing soup at art works. They simply don't believe it, do they?

Oh, and Sherwood Anderson. I have only read the short story "I'm a Fool", but that will do me. Near perfect.

Sam - that it, they simply don't believe it. To a good approximation, nobody believes it. In one sense it's a fascinating insight into our own psychology. If we were smart enough we'd see that and learn the biggest lesson we could ever learn, but we won't.

Sam - I've read I think five of his novels and lots of short stories. Very readable and quotable. A strange life from what I recall.

I think the elite 'believe' in Climate Change in the same way that female courtiers wore fake beauty spots or male courtiers wore powdered wigs - it's a marker for their social class and nothing to do with Real Life.

The middle class look up to the elite and ape their beliefs, not realising that they are virtue signalling. They look down on the workers to make sure their differentials are not being eroded (they are).

The workers know their place (see The Frost Report on 7 April 1966) - or at least they used to - but are finding the gap between virtual signalling and Real Life increasingly difficult to ignore.

DJ - yes, that seems to be a problem with modern versions of powdered wigs, workers don't know their place. It's as if some kind of social levelling is operating, but it is not clear where it is going. Elites seem to know it and want to do something about it before it is too late. Yet it possibly is too late already and their efforts are merely destructive.
