Well - our rural Norfolk silence didn't last long. What looked like RAF Typhoons cavorting across the sky above saw to that.
By gum, those things make the whole atmosphere tremble. We don't see them in Derbyshire - Harley-Davidsons on the A6 don't come close when it comes to a deep-throated, air-shaking rumble.

I was cycling home one evening and stopped to watch a bunch of US warplanes flying sou'west. "That's odd" I thought, Libya is to the sou'east.
But, lo, they were indeed off to bomb Libya but, unknown to me, they had been denied permission to fly through French airspace.
That must have been good to see
We get the big Chinook helicopters flying over where I work, always in twos. It happens about once or twice a month. They're a sight to see and the rumble is incredible
On holiday in Delightful Dorset one year we discovered that a nearby MOD Artillery Range was still in use one morning...
Sam - and hoping to sell them cheap Russian jets.

Bucko - on rare occasions I've seen Chinook helicopters in hilly areas of Derbyshire. I don't know where they come from though.
DJ - sounds like one of the things they don't tell you about in the blurb.
