Don't claim the money says millionaire

Calls for Liz Truss not to take yearly £115,000 as ex-prime minister

Sir Keir Starmer has called on Liz Truss not to claim an allowance of up to £115,000 a year that she would be entitled to after resigning as PM.

Liz Truss announced her resignation from the lectern outside No 10 on Thursday after just 44 days in the job.

This from a chap who promotes himself as a champion of playing by the rules.

Take the money, Liz. You earned it based on what you said in your campaign you would do, then tried to do it once elected. You, a politician, actually tried to do what you said you would do.

The money is only paid for the fulfilment of public duties - it's not a pension. She has to work for it. Is Starmer suggesting she works for nothing?

Obviously, he is trying to talk up the nature of the political crisis so people are more receptive to his demands for an election.

People who are wealthy can afford to forgo payment for their efforts - strange advice from a Socialist. Perhaps there is Socialism for the masses and 'my Socialism'?

The finely developed art of hypocrisy. Politicians are so adept.

When you have a generally leftie press hounding the Conservatives all the time, there's going to come a time when any real person - and I consider Liz Truss a good person to be in a position of power, is going to say, "Oh stuff this for a game of soldiers", and as Said (above) said, she did try and do what she set out to do! The first impressions of Kwazi's budget were met with some acclaim, and it was only when the swamp of the elite, pampered as usual by rich lefties and the rest, realised that she was going to be on a loser, because they would damned well see that she was.

The MSM hounded Boris unmercifully about minor infringements like having a party, but they left Keir Beer and Ginge alone! Boris said 'the proverbial soldiers bit' and let them get on with it!

I really hope he comes back and gives two fingers to the lefties, especially the BBC which is as corrupt these days as any state broadcaster in a criminal Mid-African state. And I'd give Liz Truss a job in Cabinet too, she is a great Lieutenant, and can deal with the likes of the EU and the demented Biden dead easily!

"The money is only paid for the fulfilment of public duties": that's more than the newspapers have explained to me, Sam. Where can I learn more?

Anon - and on a positive note she left a reminder of how difficult it is to carry out and how ferocious the opposition would be.

Sam - thanks - I didn't know that. Presumably Starmer assumes nobody will check, I know I didn't.

DJ - it is strange advice from a Socialist, although wealthy ones always seem strange, as if it's an obsessive hobby.

James - impressively so at times. Not many times fortunately.

Scrobs - the MSM did hound Boris unmercifully about minor infringements and people should learn from that, but they don't. Many think it's journalism.

dearieme - I didn't know that either, I assumed it was all about avoiding the embarrassment of having a destitute former PM.

She will need the money - who is going to give her a job when she loses her seat?

Vatsmith - and her memoirs would be too short for a whole book.
