Conviction

Are the Conservatives losing their conviction on climate change?

Is the climate crisis one too many to deal with for a prime minister being buffeted with problems such as energy bills and the rising cost of living?

This time a year ago Boris Johnson was preparing for the high-profile COP26 UN summit on climate change, hosted in Glasgow.

It wasn't a perfect gathering by any means, and Mr Johnson's own record on environmental issues was far from blemish-free, but real progress was made on coal, forests and national emission reduction goals.

Are the Conservatives losing their conviction on climate change? I certainly hope so.

Probably not though. The question is of course political. It has nothing to do with science, the climate or energy generation. It is concerned with the supreme political motive of telling the proles how to run their lives to their ultimate disadvantage. One hundred percent political rhetoric.

But we already knew that.

I think you're wrong. It's about harvesting votes because the focus groups reveal that the mug electorate want green bollocks.

The market in 'climate change', created by politicians and their financial backers some years ago, has reached the top of the curve now, and will descend as realisation of the 'big dupe' is recognised as what it was - a way to cheat the proles.

Bit late to do anything now - the money's been gone for ages!

Climate change goes beyond individual governments now. The Conservatives probably couldn't reverse the policies even if they wanted to. For some reason though, our tiny island has decided to go all in. They could have just said that we will do something as soon as China and India have caught up.
That would probably be colonialist / racist or something though
I don't think the situation is going to improve in our lifetimes

dearieme - I don't know, I've seen a number of surveys which suggest green bollocks is (are?) not high on the popular list of priorities. As winter approaches, it will be interesting to see how the parties position themselves on their green bollocks.

Scrobs - yes, this winter could be very interesting politically. Not an easy tightrope to walk, but watching them try could be entertaining. We'll certainly need some entertainment.

Bucko - it certainly seems to have gone beyond some individual governments in the developed world, but it's hard to see why. "We can't have a significant impact" ought to be an easy message to sell, but the reaction of the usual suspects would be hysterical and unrelenting.

Let's hope a few of them read this article:

Perhaps it's now becoming difficult to hide the truth about climate from the masses - good!

Ed - the page seems to have disappeared, but the point is made. I hope this winter causes lots of people to wake up to the consequences of letting loons into politics.
