Nonsense used to have a certain charm

European bison arrive near Canterbury to manage woodland

Paul Whitfield, the director general of Wildwood Trust, said: "It's going to demonstrate the very real impact nature based solutions can have in solving the climate crisis.

"We're going to prove the impact bison in the wild can have on the environment.

"They will create an explosion of biodiversity and build habitat resilience, locking in carbon to help reduce global temperature rise."

Presumably the 'proof' would be a detectable change in global temperatures directly attributable to the Kent bison. But -

“When I use a word,” Humpty Dumpty said in rather a scornful tone, “it means just what I choose it to mean — neither more nor less.”
“The question is,” said Alice, “whether you can make words mean so many different things.”
“The question is,” said Humpty Dumpty, “
which is to be master – – that’s all.”

Oh no.
Remember grey(gray?) squirrels. Knot weed. Not forgetting the Giant Alien Cannibal Slug - Arion Vulgaris.
And for our Aussie friends the list is long. Rabbits, foxes, pigs, camels, cats, dogs, cane toads.
What could possibly go wrong.
Presumably bison do not fart. Can anyone guess why the prairie had no trees?

For something so critical for the environment, the government need to pass an Act of Parliament. I'm looking forward to the Buffalo Bill.

How do bison taste?

Doonhamer - maybe in time they will have to be culled using bows and arrows.

Sam - I bet quite a few MPs like the idea of putting that forward.

James - I'd rather not get near enough to find out.

"How do bison taste?" American ones taste fine, rather beefish if memory serves.

I prefer 'roo, I think. Are there still wallabies hopping about the Peak District?

dearieme - there are still a few claimed wallaby sightings in the Peak District, but we've only seen captive ones in a rural garden.

How on Earth do they expect Euro Bison to cope in the UK? It's only in gigantic forests of Prussia and Poland that they survive and they are rarely seen. You can't just dump them in the 100 acre wood. However, it would help the re-enaction Goering's party trick - bring a pair of wisent into the dining room to watch them mate

Sounds as if that's the plan though. Eeyore won't be pleased.

Sam, there's a difference between a buffalo and a bison. For instance, you can't wash your face in a buffalo.
