A new low-power toaster has been designed by a group of UK think tanks engaged in research into sustainable technology. Known informally as eco-Tech Tanks, the group has named the new toaster the Nut Nut in recognition of enthusiastic backing given to green technology by the Prime Minister. Other products are likely to be produced under the Nut Nut brand.
As pointed out by eco-Tech Tanks, the new toaster also acts as a valuable source of warmth and light on winter mornings.

I was expecting a big parabolic mirror. Which like all things eco, only works when the weather is suitable.
It's a brilliant example of joined-up thinking. When it's too draughty for the toaster to work, the wind turbines are turning, and that means you can get out your old electric toaster. It's best to keep them together, so you can quickly transfer the bread to the most effective toaster.
Toasting-fork-handles...
(Coat applied for...)!

I have often wondered, when I have nothing better to do than watch a toaster toasting, what is the point of knocking the water out of bread and then spreading butter on it to make it soggy again ?
Had we still been in the EU the eco-toaster would have been a tealight and full candles banned. Not so effective at toasting or spreading light and heat but more environmentally friendly.
The fact that a major EU business also had a lot of spare tealight manufacturing capacity was just a coincidence, honest.
Not enough committees there, or meetings,
Doonhamer - a big parabolic mirror would certainly be fun. A solar barbecue springs to mind but someone has probably made one already.
Sam - good idea and it would be a fine excuse to nip downstairs for a nigh time snack when the wind is blowing.
Scrobs - I should have used that!
Wiggia - I bet Boris hasn't shown that to her.
MrMC - toast is probably just a way of using up stale bread. The bread I make is better toasted after a day or so.
DJ - and sooner or later the tealights would have to be made from olive oil to help olive growers.
Mr MC: That was the reason, well, that and the chemicals, we went back to butter from some yellow petroleum byproduct. Yellow cow byproduct doesn't make the toast soggy, which every ypbp does!
Mrs Chin, my oriental assistant, is still trying to understand butter, but since she cannot get her head around cheese, I think its a lost cause.
If I ever need some alone time, I just get a stilton out of the fridge and shes gone for a day or two.
Win win really.
I'm with Spike Milligan, chopsicks ? whats all that about ? they think they invented everything but thats why they never found custard
Jannie - we went back to butter after the synthetic stuff. As well as the flavour, it has a kind of two fingers to health fanatics feel to it which is also enjoyable.
MrMC - Mrs H and I both like stilton. Can't get the grandkids to try it though.
I wonder why the EU did not rule against the double slot toaster.
If you only want one slice, two slots are still powered.
They spawned the battery powered vacuum cleaner by limiting the mains powered ones.
Beautiful unintended consequence. Instead of mains power for ten minutes a day we have chargers running all day, every day.
Doonhamer - we have a two slot toaster and I've often wondered why I can't just use one. I can use half the grill but not half the toaster.
