Not entirely different

We buzzed off for a walk in the hills above Cromford Canal today. Very pleasant it was and good to get away from the media for a few hours. In my case there is always a strong temptation to scan the headlines at least, but not when we are out walking.

I couldn't get away from it completely though because it occurred to me that there is some similarity between the UK coronavirus response and huge vanity projects such as HS2. Not a comparison I'd push very far, but in both cases vast sums of money are spent with no easily demonstrated return. Then there is the status of being seen to approve a massive project. Not entirely different perhaps but that's enough of that -

Are they cygnets? You need to be careful. They can break a man's arm with a blow of their wing.

SV - Not a problem. The NHS is the envy of the world . . . . allegedly.

Always fancied a canal boat, like 'Travelling Man' (TV series)...

Dear sister and BIL had several, but got fed up with kids hurling bricks at them while driving the canals in the Midlands, so they stayed at home!

Sam - yes they are cygnets. The nest had been built right next to the towpath so it had been temporarily fenced off with plastic netting. The swans seemed to understand that this was a secure boundary and were quite relaxed even though we were very close.

Jannie - coronavirus deaths will take some explaining though.

Scrobs - canals do seem to go through some rough areas.
