Bournemouth declares peak dork

Council leader Vikki Slade said: "We are absolutely appalled at the scenes witnessed on our beaches, particularly at Bournemouth and Sandbanks, in the last 24-48 hours.

"The irresponsible behaviour and actions of so many people is just shocking and our services are stretched to the absolute hilt trying to keep everyone safe. We have had no choice now but to declare a major incident and initiate an emergency response."

Hmm - on first scanning the headline I though it must be a bomb or a plane crashed into the beach or something else in the major incident line. Apparently not, but council folk do like their drama.

A council spokesman said: "we're used to the steady stream of well-off pensioners coming here to die, but it's years since anybody normal came here, survived and went home"

Meanwhile in Brixton, there was a street party which culminated in a minor riot with 20-odd police injured and police cars trashed. I wonder what they would call that?

Tobias Ellwood Mp said "He added the government needed to be "dynamic" in its response to beach crowding, otherwise the lockdown would have "been for nothing"
Meanwhile various street parties attract police in huge numbers who are then chased away by the mob, Priti Useless declares the scenes are appalling and will not be tolerated !
Anfield last night, large crowd gathers lets of fireworks flares police say no action necessary and no comment from anyone re social distancing or lockdown rules, though it was reported 'some' were wearing masks, probably those stealing hubcaps.

I quite liked Bournemouth, until Mrs O'Blene showed me a picture of the beach yesterday!

Apparently, some people had driven down from Birmingham to sunbathe there!

Quite a long way to to go to get sand up your bum for the three-hour drive home!

Jannie - ha ha - but surely that would be an unsteady stream of well-off pensioners going there to die.

Sam - vibrantly diverse?

Wiggia - yes masks are a brilliant idea for hubcap thieves.

Scrobs - if I'd driven down from Birmingham I wouldn't be too keen on going back.

Has the alleged reason for the lock-down been forgotten?

It's not surprising if people are confused: close-quarter demonstrating is allowed, but going to sit on a beach is not OK.

Perhaps the great unwashed now believe the virus has 'gone away', rather than having been held back from its inevitable spread by the lock-down.

But I have tried in vain to explain to many family and friends, most of whom are of above average intelligence, the difference between infected and infectious when symptom-less. The concept, and therefore the actions one must take for self-protection, are not easily understood.

Ed - there is also the issue of risk, in that most of those at the beach or demonstrating are not taking a significant risk.

Reducing separation from 2 to 1 metre only increases the risk of transmission by approx 12%.

Sitting close together, in sunshine in a gentle breeze on a beach, is just as safe as being 2m apart indoors.

But packing together in an angry crowd, shouting, breathing heavily, etc., is probably just about the best way of spreading aerosol-borne viruses.

Therefore if the authorities really wanted to contain the spread, they would leave the beaches alone and clamp down on all demonstrations, but hey, logic?
