The obvious question...

...how long before it smells of urine?

Cruise said it was designed for shared ownership: "It's not a product you buy, it's an experience you share."

Chief executive Dan Ammann wants drivers to move away from individual ownership to a sharing model, to help reduce emissions, accidents and congestion.

Speaking at the launch in San Francisco, he said the Cruise Origin was not a concept vehicle: "It is self-driven. It is all electric. It is shared."

If they want us to use cars less, then making them more shared and communal is actually a pretty good way to go about it. A few nasty experiences when they are not in pristine condition, and I would stop altogether. The beauty of private property is that one doesn't mind one's own dirt.

Shades of Sergeant Wilson's motorbike again, Mr H...

A chum who used to be in the motor trade always marked down cars where the previous owner was a smoker, but he never mentioned any other nasty smells!

Maaaany years ago the memsahib and I ran a car valet service. One gem we dealt with was a Fiat 132 - yes, that long ago - which had long-dried dog vomit in the back. Car share? Yummy!

Sam - and the beauty of private property is that we know how the stain on the seat was caused.

James - could be worse too.

Scrobs - admit to the least objectionable smell and hope any other won't be noticed perhaps.

Jannie - reminds me of a chap I knew decades ago proudly showing off his brand new Fiat 132. I never understood why he was so obviously proud of it.

What, because of "Couldn't Care Less" users, or the otherwise decent folk who p**sed themselves when the driverless car did something they weren't expecting, and they weren't able to take any action?

microdave - both I imagine, which of course increases the amount of cleaning required. Maybe they need some kind of automatic sluicing out system.
