Heavy rain brings flood threat as 'shock' temperature drop set to hit
Flooding could hit parts of the country this week as heavy rain is forecast to hit drought-stricken land, but temperatures could take a “shock” drop later in the week.
According to the Met Office, certain areas will see the “first meaningful rain for a long time” following weeks of heatwaves and dry weather, which has left many parts of the country facing water shortages and have seen several restrictions introduced.
A short walk followed by a stroll to Sainsbury's then coffee and chocolate may help too.

Rain? Wassat? None here in Western France since Spring.
My wife saw a forecast of rain so she went out to hoe the kitchen garden to ensure that the rain soaks in rather than runs off.
Coffee and chocolate help everything.
From the Met Office:
"Climate is the general weather over a long period. This can include rainfall, temperature, snow or any other weather condition. We usually define a region’s climate over a period of 30 years."
So.. if we experienced 30 years of heat wave summers we might conclude that the climate had changed. But a few heatwave summers, here and there, not so much - and you would be obliged to include wet dull summers in the same period too. None of which proves any causation.
Plus the harsh winters and hot summers of the 1970s are out of bounds.
DAD - sounds as if you are due for a break, let's hope it isn't too torrential.
dearieme - that was a good idea, we didn't believe there would be much, but we had a few showers overnight.

DJ - yes, the 30 years definition used to be pointed out by sceptics, but that seems to have faded in the face of endless claims where weather is equated to climate. Even then it isn't possible to take as 30 year period as typical of other 30 year periods.
