Vigil to be held for Jason Arday as fundraiser reaches £130,000
Prof Arday resigned from his post as professor of sociology of education at the University of Cambridge last week after allegations of plagiarism were made against him. He was found dead at a home in Battersea on Friday.
A vigil for the professor, organised by the group Stand Up To Racism, will be held on the steps of the National Gallery in Trafalgar Square, central London, at 6pm on Monday.

"the group Stand Up To Racism" which will prove its credentials by accusing everyone else of being vile racists while themselves pursuing an undeniably racist cause.
Even by your lofty standards, that’s a remarkably apposite quote.
The mental contortions required to justify the involvement of Stand Up to Racism are, of course, second nature to a certain sector of the population but it’s difficult to see how even they can claim racial prejudice when their Emperor was indubitably stark naked by anyone’s standards.
The saddest thing about it is that, had he chosen to do his job rather than making a public song and dance about being the youngest ever black professor and releasing a memoir larded with implausible medical events, he might have escaped much of the subsequent media attention. It seems likely that the friends, family and supporters who urged him to do so - and who presumably never came out with a friendly ‘Come off it, mate!’ at his embellished tales of achievement or woe, however far-fetched - are now ‘thrusting the truth away with both hands’ and seeking to assuage their guilt.

dearieme - yes, they are pursuing an undeniably racist cause. It isn't easy to avoid assuming that this is the point of it.
Macheath - oh dear, I'll need a bigger hat now! Yes, without the implausible claims and with a lower profile he might escaped much of the attention. Even the plagiarism could have slipped under the public radar.
It leaves us with an interesting question though - how many quieter versions of Jason Arday are there?
If only it was well defined as to what a 'racist' and 'racism' really meant then I could claim to be or not to be one.
Tammly - yes it's a problem, the words seems to have variable meanings depending on the speaker.
