Could be fun for a while

Who is the Labour MP threatening to oust Starmer?

The MP for Hornsey and Friern Barnet has threatened to launch a formal challenge against her party's leader.

Labour MP Catherine West has threatened to launch a leadership challenge against Sir Keir Starmer.

She says she doesn't want the job herself, but after a "disastrous" set of elections for the party, she thinks "new leadership" is required "which understands the urgent and real concerns of people across the UK".

Could be fun for a while, but that may be all we get out of a challenge to Starmer.

He is a bungling, mendacious, totalitarian globalist, but Labour has ample capacity to come up with someone worse.

A woman who 99.9% of the population would not recognise and was sacked as a junior minister for inability (some going amongst this lot,) decides to launch a bid. Damp squib is the most polite response, a nothing burger in USA-speak.

I have just the right musical accompaniment:

A horse is a horse, of course, of course
But not when the horse is a stalking horse
So is this horse a stalking horse for Big Ange or net-zero Ed?

Go right to the source and ask the horse
Which other candidate she’ll endorse
And who persuaded her to force
The matter to a head.

Friern Barnet - there used to be a loony bin there. Is she an ex-resident?

Chris - she's probably a stalking horse for one of the big names, but it's hardly worth knowing which name that might be as the main possibilities are all so dire. A party which ended up with Corbyn as leader could do anything.

Macheath - ha ha, yes she's a stalking horse. Let's hope it isn't for Mr Ed though, not that there are any markedly better possibilities.

Yes, I know about stalking horses, but they aren't going to be following her. Starmer is currently still digging and I think it will be a while before someone takes the spade away from him. The obvious candidates, ghastly though they may be, will wait a while longer. Bringing on board has-been and never-were dinosaur failures may paper over cracks but won't keep Starmer there until the next election. When your 'consultants' flogged off our gold on the cheap and gave the Navy two aircraft carriers they didn't want, well that's just PIE in the sky.

(If you didn't get the last bit, look it up.)

DAD - that's an interesting possibility. Only closed in 1993 apparently.

Chris - you may be right because it does seem early for anyone intending to remain as leader until the next election. There are too many bear traps to navigate safely.

I never understood how Harman survived the PIE episode, but she's still there. Must tell us something.

"Must tell us something." If you'll forgive the cliché, she knows where the bodies are buried.

From Guido: "Reeves and her Solicitor General sister had an argument about Burnham at a children’s birthday party." Who tattled?

dearieme - yes she must know where the bodies are buried. It would be no surprise if most of them know something damaging about most of the others.

Let's hope a parent told Guido about the argument between Reeves and her sister, someone who couldn't stand either of them.

I've heard her referred to as a stalking donkey. How very true.

Tammly - ha ha, very apt.
