Take statistics for instance. They can be used to:-
a) present a model of something in real life, and should be used with care
b) as a rhetorical device to convince people, without caring or understanding something in real life

I give you COVID tales, climate crisis alarmism, and Net Zero as rhetorical devices.

I would be happy if the clowns in the HOC did what was best for us natives 40% of the time!
Seems to me they do what is worst 100% instead.

DJ - yes, politicians appear to treat everything as a potential rhetorical device when assessing how useful it is to them. That seems to be one of their most important ways of valuing information.

Mike - yes, 40% would be an improvement and they wouldn't necessarily have to do much for that 40%, just start by repealing damaging laws and regulations.

I remember a Westminster politician being asked what percentage of the Earth's atmosphere was comprised CO2. His answer was 65%. I think and even more egregious answer.
