A landmark legal battle is set to begin at the High Court on Monday, as five major car manufacturers are accused of cheating on emissions tests.
The trial marks a significant development in the ongoing “dieselgate” scandal, potentially impacting 1.6 million vehicle owners in what lawyers describe as the largest class action in English and Welsh legal history.

Alas our diesel car is so old that we probably don't qualify for the pay-off.
Mind you, though a strong supporter of capitalism I am dismayed by how rarely Directors and Executives are sent to jail for their misdeeds. Usually it's the shareholders (e.g. my pension scheme) who have to stump up while the villains responsible get to keep their ill-gotten bonuses.
Somefink should be dun abaht it.
dearieme - we just had a recall for a software upgrade and that was it. Didn't seem to make any difference to the way the car ran.
Maybe if Directors and Executives were sent to jail then senior politicians and government officials might find themselves subject to harsh legal scrutiny too. Even if they aren't Masons, they may as well be because the mutual protection of insiders seems to be much the same.
It has long been recognised, and accepted by our masters, that responsibility is like water, in that it tends to find the lowest possible level. If the companies lose, it will no doubt be the people who clean the toilets getting the P45s. They will be missed.

CO2 is not a pollutant anyway. Climate Change is a manufactured crisis designed to prop up the scam that is enriching the 'green' financial sector with subsidies from our taxes.
Under the Health and Safety at Work Act Directors and senior managers could be (and have been) prosecuted if they didn't ensure their workers followed the safety rules.
This principle has sadly been missed in other legislation. I wonder why?
Penseivat - yes, responsibility can be like pouring water onto sand, it just won't stay on top.
Felipe - I agree, it's mostly scam with a few loons to shout down sceptics.
DJ - for the diesel issue there is a political flavour to it which seems obvious enough but isn't officially admitted.
Shouldn't there also be prosecutions of EV and solar panel manufacturers/importers for lying to the public about how green and environmentally friendly they are when they're not?
Tammly - yes it's a mis-selling scandal and should be treated as such.
It's a grifters' charter - as if anyone's decision to buy a car was influenced by its level of emissions and not the performance or design.
Vatsmith - I agree, it is a grifters' charter and they must know it.
