Green rules ‘stop Europe preparing for Russian invasion’
European countries have blamed EU environmental regulations for hindering their preparations for defending against a possible Russian invasion.
In a leaked letter obtained by The Telegraph, the nations’ defence ministers argued that the rules had stopped the expansion of military bases and prevented fighter jet pilots from training...
In 2023, the European commission published its Greening the Armies report, highlighting ways in which militaries present a challenge to tackling climate change.
It isn't always easy to know what to say about EU absurdities, but this quote from John Buchan's novel 'Greenmantle' seems appropriate.
The world, as I see it, had become too easy and cushioned. Men had forgotten their manhood in soft speech, and imagined that the rules of their smug civilization were the laws of the universe. But that is not the teaching of science, and it is not the teaching of life. We have forgotten the greater virtues, and we were becoming emasculated humbugs whose gods were our own weaknesses.

Soft times have made weak men*; we’re about to get the hard times, I suspect.
* Or stupid men, anyway.
Peter - weak and stupid I reckon. Difficult to see how it can end well now.
If you’d put the pilots grounded to reduce CO2 emissions into a comic novel or film script - elevator pitch; ‘Catch 22’ meets ‘Top Gun’ - you’d have been sent away with a flea in your ear because it’s too absurd even for satire.
How on earth did we come to this?
Why, for any logical reason, would Russia want to in invade the EU, and its puppet , the UK?
We have nothing that could be of any possible use to them. Go on list them.
"Do not interfere when your enemy is in the process of destroying itself." Or words to that effect.
Our native population have given up procreation for a multitude of reasons.
Christianity has wilted in Western Europe and has swelled in Africa, Eastern Europe and Asia.
Our leaders are Starmer, Macron, Trump, and no others come to mind. Nuff said.
If I was young I would be heading East or South. The next few hundred years are their's.
Sad, innit?
A Russian invasion? God forbid that we should be ruled by incompetent nobodies headed by a mentally ill bloke like those poor Russkies.
But then we might be ruled not by the chocolate tea-pot but by a chocolate samovar.
Macheath - it's not easy to see how we came to this, but I suppose we have to accept that collectively we are not in control of our destiny. We don't know how to do politics and rational government. Perhaps we never did.
Doonhamer - I agree, Russia won't want to invade the EU unless they are as mad as we are and at the moment they don't seem to be. It is sad, but it appears that we don't have the collective intelligence to choose a viable future.
Sam - yes, rule by incompetent nobodies headed by a nutter would be a disaster, especially a nutter who doesn't like us.
dearieme - not much of a choice is it?
In tough times people want Heroes. In quiet times people don't want Heroes, drinking all our beer and 'flirting' with all our women. It would now appear that the Green Lobby has worked hard to cancel Heroes altogether.
DJ - yes, it's probably the interviews where even the most talented potential Heroes fall down.
