I'm Fake

Lots of similar material around, but this is impressive as a demonstration of where we are in the world of AI fakes.

I didn't watch to the end. Tell me: did Two Tier appear?

dearieme - they probably can't do Two Tier yet, AI would be too coherent and the auto-lying module would require too many changes with unpredictable consequences.

Interesting because of the technical expertise, but not as worrying as the video makes out. We never did verify someone's ID via video. Those sorts of scams occur at the level of email or phone call.

Things will get tricky, though. A convincing video of a politician saying or doing something will be enough to spur people into action, if the right time is chosen. I bet Israel has faked videos of Khamenei resigning or being shot by domestic resistance fighters. And would you believe an unearthed video by Starmer's Ukrainian rent-boys explaining why they set light to his house?

I think the dividing line is between public performance and private knowledge. I only know Starmer by means of public video performance, so I'm vulnerable to manipulation there. But my friend Rob, who has emailed me to say "long time no see, I'm passing through on Wednesday so shall we meet up?" is recognisable because we have shared private knowledge. I know it's him, as he is a literary type who references his kids' names. The trouble will start if anyone gains access to our private emails. Those scams which are along the lines of "Hi, I'm in trouble, I need some money" are hopeless, because they don't have access to our email history. When they do, expect big trouble.

I assume that the CCP has access to everything, and the CIA/FBI to almost everything. Probably they scam people much richer than us.

Sam - we don't verify someone's ID via video, but scam texts and emails could be developed with embedded and convincingly professional videos purporting to be from reputable organisations such as the NHS. We may have to pay more attention to private information and how much we allow online.

dearieme - Some years ago I watched a video about mysterious buildings across the US which were said to be there purely to monitor internet traffic at certain important locations such as international data links. Sorting through the dross must be a problem though.
