Reeves forced to back down in net zero row with Miliband
Ed Miliband has defeated an attempt by Rachel Reeves to raid one of his key net zero programs in next week’s spending review, The Telegraph understands.
The Treasury has for months been considering cuts to the £13.2 billion warm homes plan, which aims to insulate properties and make them more energy efficient.
But Mr Miliband, the Energy Security Secretary, and Ms Reeves, the Chancellor, are understood to have reached an agreement in the past few days after fraught negotiations and the scheme will remain largely unaffected.
Destiny does not make mistakes. Destiny apparently does not even punish you for sins. Half the time you can get away with murder before that august and inscrutable visage. On the other hand Destiny is ironic and punishes your stupidities by means of endless, sticky entanglements....

It seems that nothing which actually saves the state some money, can be allowed to stand.
I fear this will not end well. Let us hope it ends soon.
Peter - yes, let us hope it ends soon, although the huge size of Labour majority is a concern.
To both, I say begone.
James - begone, be bygones.
I'm glad Ed won. We need the Labour bus to crash as soon as possible. The economy disappointing people by not growing is worse news for Labour. I'd like to see mass riots, with people returning to nice warm homes that are well insulated.
Sam - we do need to see the Labour bus crash soon, but it isn't clear if the party is capable of improving on Starmer and his rabble. It should be easy, but there isn't much talent to work with.
Can nobody in government see an implied contradiction between the warm homes plan and Global Warming? Or will we see a cooler homes plan rolled out (much later) to undo all the 'good work'?
DJ - it's odd isn't it? The attraction of insulation is that it saves energy now and reduces the effect of global cooling if the climate doesn't go along with Ed's predictions.
